Made together

Crew & Performers

Making Hay is co-created — much of what happens across the weekend is built by the people who show up for it, not just watched by them. Here's how to get involved.

Volunteer exchange

Trade a few hours for a ticket

Making Hay runs on its volunteers — stewarding gates, welcoming guests, running the campsite, and keeping every space above ticking over. Rather than volunteering just meaning "free entry with a surprise shift," we run a proper exchange: a set number of volunteering hours across the entire event including set up and take down in return for your festival ticket, coordinated by a dedicated Volunteer Coordinator so everyone knows exactly what they've signed up for.

Stewarding & Welcome

Gates, car parks and the first friendly face people meet.

Artist Liaison

Looking after performers, writers and workshop leaders.

Wellbeing & Workshop Support

Helping The Well and The Word run smoothly.

Campsite Support

Keeping the camping fields calm, safe and tidy.

Recycling & Environment

Looking after the grounds during and after the gathering.

Production Runner

Keeping the whole site moving behind the scenes.

Information & Night Support

A friendly presence, day and night.

Set-Up & Strike

Before the gates open, and after the fire goes out.

Musicians, writers & workshop leaders

Beyond the volunteer crew, Making Hay is also shaped by the people who play, read, teach and lead across the six spaces — from The Garden stage to a quiet session in The Word. If you'd like to bring something of your own to the weekend, we'd love to hear from you.
